
1) Launch Photos, located in your /Applications folder. 2) Open a Finder window and browse to the Photos Library folder located at /Pictures/Photos Libraries. 3) Within the Photos Libraries folder, right-click (or control-click) the image library you wish to merge, then select Show Package Content from the dropdown menu. A simple tool for online image comparison This website allows you to quickly and easily compare the difference between two images - pixel by pixel. Simply drop the first image you wish to compare into the left box, and the other image in the right box. (You can also click on the boxes to get a upload dialog).
Not particularly useful for my purpose; wouldn’t recognize directories on my phone as valid comparison folders. Had two almost identical folders containing my music library (one on my phone, one on my PC. My music library on my PC is a whole drive partition, while the library on my phone is a folder on the internal storage. Tkdiff is a plain and simple application for file comparison that can be used to compare the matter within two files. It works with plain text documents (in text format), and the TCL ones. The best part is, the tool is easy to use and so, can be handled by any type of user whether beginner or experienced. No suggestions on how to open two libraries side by side - it's clearly not something Apple intends end users to do. A folder compare will show whatever differences exist in the Masters, Previews, and Thumbnails folders - but that can be a very tedious way of learning why an album is empty - you'd have to know what images were supposed to be in.
You can use iCloud Photos, Shared Albums, and My Photo Stream only with the System Photo Library. If you choose a different library in Photos without designating it as the System Photo Library, the iCloud tab in Photos preferences is disabled.

If you designate a new library as the System Photo Library and then turn on iCloud Photos, the photos and videos in the new library will merge with those already in your iCloud Photos. Additionally, all photos and videos from iCloud will redownload to the device.
If you open a different library in the Photos app, and you haven't designated it as the System Photo Library, other applications will use photos from the original System Photo Library. Hold down the Option key when you open Photos to see which library is set as the System Photo Library.
