Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger (Lyrics)Risin' up back on the streetDid my time, took my chancesWent the distance now I'm back on my feetJust a man and his will. The song “Eye of the Tiger” was written specifically for a movie (“Rocky III”). In this movie, the protagonist is a boxer who has to train hard, both mentally and physically, in order to win a big match. And that’s the basic premise upon which “Eye of the Tiger” is set.
Risin’ up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
Chorus:
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the cream of the fight
Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watchin’ us all in the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin’ tough, stayin’ hungry
They stack the odds ’til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive
chorus
Risin’ up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
chorus
The eye of the tiger (repeats out)…
This song became very popular in the 80’s because of the movie “Rocky Balboa III”. They used it for the entrance song of a popular fictional boxer named Rocky Balboa. I think when the song writer wrote this song he did not just write it for the sake of writing it, but to also give a message to the song’s listeners.
When writing this song, the writer probably used different techniques. Although since I am not the writer, I wouldn’t know what he actually used, but based on the lyrics and the beat of the song I think he used the technique called “Sound “ and “Tone”. I picked Sound because just by listening to the introduction beat of the song you will already know its a song to “pump” you up, or get you ready for an upcoming event. Then for Tone, the words he used and the way they were put together will really help the listener not give up and continue towards his goal.

Now finally the message… The main word/phrase said in this song is: “Eye of the Tiger”, also its title, can already give away the message of the song. Because a tiger’s eye is always focused on its target. So I think the song is trying to tell us that once we have goal in life, we should just stay in that path, and not keep on turning left or right from it.
