Back in July, we informed you about a project aiming to overhaul all the Nintendo 64 games with higher quality textures. And today, we are happy to report that Duke Nukem 64, Waverace 64 and some other games have received new HD Texture Packs.

Gaming Revived has released HD Texture Packs for a lot of classic Nintendo 64 games so far. You can find AI-enhanced packs for classic games like Donkey Kong 64, F-Zero X, GoldenEye 64 and MarioKart64. Moreover, you can find high quality textures for Mortal Kombat 4, Perfect Dark, PilotWings 64, Pokemon Snap and Quake64. Needless to say that there are also packs for Star Fox 64, Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time and Turok.

Gaming Revived has used TopazGigaPixel in order to upscale the original textures of the Nintendo 64 games. The end result, for most of the times, is amazing, though there are some issues in some games. For instance, in Mortal Kombat 4 the blood textures look now worse as they are too sharp and crisp.

N64 Hi Res Texture Packs

• The N64 is one of the greatest games consoles of all time, leading the way in the late 90s with pioneering 3D graphics and bringing franchises like Mario and Zelda into gorgeous open worlds. If you own the original games, you can relive these glory days through emulation on PC, which lets you do things like increase resolutions and framerates.
• To apply texture packs in Bizhawk you need to do the following steps: Start Bizhawk and open the N64 Plugin Settings. Select GLideN64 and select the Texture settings tab. Enable the following options: HiresTextures. Hires Full Alpha Channel. Texture Cache Compression. Save Texture Cache. How your settings should look.

On the other hand, the visual improvements in Duke Nukem 64 are amazing. From the menu title to the in-game textures, everything looks sharper and better than ever.

Gaming Revived has improved the textures of more than 150 Nintendo 64 games, and you can download these texture packs from here. Do note that most of these packs are around 1-2GB in size. Moreover, these packs work in RetroArch using Mupen64-Next “Core” most recent release. Or you can use Project64 and Mupen64plus via GlideN64 3.0 or GlideN64 4.0.
